An all-wheel-drive version adds an additional electric motor to power the rear wheels. That extra motor also kicks in when power is needed for acceleration or traction.
As noted in reviews of previous models, such as the 2010 green Escape, the Ford Escape Hybrid has been touted as being “the most frugal sport-utility vehicle in America when it comes to fuel consumption.” And Ford claims it is the most fuel-efficient SUV in America.
